Meet RENA NEWMAN, our Social Work Consultant!

StandUp/SpeakUp:

an anti-bullying program through theater

What is StandUp/SpeakUp?

Rena Newman (MSW) received her degree in Sociology at Stern College for Women and her graduate degree in Social Work at Wurzweiler School of Social work. Rena has served as a social worker at a middle school in the South Bronx where she worked with high risk pre-teen and teenagers. She facilitated group therapy as well as conducted individual sessions where the conversation often focused around bullying issues . Furthermore, she oversaw the peer mediation program. Rena currently works with the special needs population. Rena is very excited to become part of the Envision Theater team as a Social Work consultant.

  • This program is designed as an eight session format.  The program may be expanded to last ten weeks, twelve weeks, one semester or for the entire school year. Each session lasts 45 minutes.

  • In addition to student workshops, our Social Work Consultant, Rena Newman, MSW, offers parent and staff workshops about dealing with bullying at school and home.
  • Stand Up/Speak Up is an original educational program which uses interactive drama activities and creative writing combined with open ended storytelling to teach children how to deal with bullying situations.

  • In the workshops students learn how to best approach difficult "bullying" situations by brainstorming various solutions, problem solving as a team and using dramatic role play. β€‹β€‹
